Chester Cycle Tours FAQs
-
Do I have to wear a helmet? Its not a legal requirement, but we strongly recommend you do. We provide helmets for you, or you can bring your own. We can also provide high visibility vests which must be worn for your safety.
-
What time should I arrive for the tour? Please arrive at least 15 to 20 minutes before your tour’s scheduled departure time. This will give you time to get acquainted with your bike and to finalise payment if you haven’t already done so online. If you are unavoidably delayed, please call to let us know and we’ll do our best to wait, though in fairness to other riders, we can’t guarantee it.
-
How do I book a tour? Please click on "Book a Tour," choose your date and time and pay online.
-
How safe is cycling in Chester? Chester has a well-deserved reputation as a cyclist-friendly city, and much of our tour is on traffic-free cycle paths or designated cycle lanes. With any physical activity, however, there is some inherent risk, and your safety is our top priority. Before we pedal, there will be a safety orientation and bicycle rundown. If Chester Cycle Tours Ltd feels that a client is unsuitable for this tour, we reserve the right to refuse participation.
-
How difficult is the ride? Most people find it easy. There's one short hill in Chester, but we ride at a relaxed pace and stop part way up as there are things to see! As long as you’re comfortable cycling in an urban setting for 2 to 2.5 hours (be honest), you'll be fine.
-
Is there a weight limit? We wont weigh you, but we recommend a maximum weight of 18 stones to be comfortable on our bikes.
-
What about bad weather? There's no such thing as bad weather, just inadequate clothing! Please check the weather before joining us. If the forecast looks really nasty, however, we reserve the right to cancel the tour up to one hour before start time. If that does happen, we’ll contact you at the phone number you provided on booking, and you’ll be invited to reschedule (subject to availability) or receive credit for a future ride or a full refund.
-
What happens if I have a mechanical problem? Your guide has both the knowledge and the tools to repair a flat or fix a minor breakdown. If you can't complete the ride due to a mechanical problem, we will refund and ensure you get back safely.
-
What do I need to bring? Comfortable riding clothes to match the weather, closed shoes (recommended - no flip flops!), some cash (we start the ride outside a cafe so you might want to buy water or a snack), a camera if you like, sunglasses and sunscreen. We supply helmets but you can bring your own if convenient.
-
Are there any stops on the tour? Yes, there will be lots of stops along the way at sites of interest, and plenty of time for you to ask questions and take photos
-
Is the tour suitable for children? The minimum age for riders is 12 years, and 12 to 16 year olds must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Sorry, no exceptions. We would also recommend that ‘soon-to-be-mums' avoid the tour as a precautionary measure.
